A number of Nigerian airlines, including Arik
Air have reportedly grounded flights and
radio stations had to close early in the
wake of months-long fuel shortage
worsened by striking oil tanker drivers in
Africa’s biggest oil producing country,
Aljazeera reports.
The usual bustling roads in the city of
Lagos, a metropolis of 20 million, were
reportedly half-empty as gas stations
closed on Saturday with several vehicles
grounded.
“All flights suspended or
canceled. No fuel. Been
sitting here since 6am,”
a customer complained on
Twitter.
Some of the radio stations that went dead
on Saturday night include The Beat, Classic
FM, and City FM , after being hit by frequent
power outages and out of diesel fuel for
generators.
