Two
policemen have been brutally killed during a shootout with deadly armed
robbers who attacked a bullion van dressed in army uniforms.
Deadly armed robbers on Tuesday, attacked a bullion van belonging
to the Central Bank of Nigeria and killing two policemen. The incident
happened at Hawan Kibo along the Jos-Abuja Road.
The bullion van and the policemen were attacked in the early hours of Tuesday en route to Abuja from Jos.
It was gathered that the robbers attacked the van after it passed
through a military checkpoint along Hawan Kibo. The robbers, who were in
military uniforms, emerged from a bush and engaged the police team in a
shootout.
During the exchange of gunfire, two policemen were killed.
One of the deceased policemen was identified as Sergeant Anthony Jawa, of the Police Mobile Force, Unit 8, Jos.
The shocking incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna. He said, “Some policemen were killed, but we do not have their number yet.”
Punch reports that the CBN bullion van had been taken to the Federal Road Safety Commission office, in Riyom, as of press time.
