Tears have flowed after a popular female teacher killed herself after her boyfriend ended their relationship of two years.
Katie Humpage
A popular English teacher hanged herself after her boyfriend dumped
her. An inquest into her death found out that Katie Humpage, 32, was
discovered by her devastated parents at her house in Walsall, West
Midlands on July 26, just days into the start of the school holidays.
Dailymail reveals that Humpage's boyfriend Joe Clarke had recently
broken up with her 'out of the blue' after they had returned from a
holiday together. This made her to struggle over the split. The two had
met while working at South Wolverhampton and Bilston Academy and have
been in a relationship for two years.
Her stepfather Lee Horney, 50, said Ms Humpage 'didn't see any
point in carrying on' because she only wanted a life with Mr Clarke.
Paramedics were called when her mother Tracey, 53, and Lee let
themselves into her property with a spare key when they became worried
they could not contact her.
Despite the best efforts of medics she was pronounced dead at the
scene. Recording a verdict of suicide, Black Country coroner Zafar
Saddique said: 'The reason her boyfriend gave for leaving her was he did not see a long-term future together.
'She did not understand why and this appears to be the reason for her breakdown.
'The break-up affected her quite badly and she had good days and bad days at the time.
'My conclusion is that she took her own life. I would like to
express my condolences to the family. Sadly we will never know exactly
what was going on in her life at the time.'
The court also heard how Katie was previously admitted to hospital
in June after taking an overdose of tablets. Katie was seen by a doctor
when she was discharged saying she had been 'deeply regretful' of taking
the overdose.
In a statement read out in court, Mr Clarke said he had ended the
relationship because he could not see a future in it. He broke up with
her just two days after they returned from a holiday.
At the time of her death colleagues paid tribute to the 'passionate' and 'dedicated' teacher.
Principal Kerry Inscker, said: 'Miss Humpage was an exceptionally talented teacher and leader who was very highly regarded by staff and students.
'She was passionate about teaching English and was dedicated to her students, she had a hugely positive impact on us all.
