The
Ministers of Defence and Interior, four service chiefs, Members of the
House of Representatives, Inspector General of Police, and the Director
General of the Department of State Security, are currently in a
closed-door session.

Members of the House of Representatives are currently in a
closed-door session with the ministers of Defence and Interior as well
as the four service chiefs over the spate of kidnappings in the country.
Also at the closed-door meeting are the Inspector General of
Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the Director General of the Department of
State Security (DSS), Lawal Daura.
The House had last Thursday, summoned them, including the National
Security Adviser (NSA), Maj Gen Babagana Monguno to address the
lawmakers today in a closed-meeting.
The top security chiefs are expected to explain why kidnappers are
having a field day, especially along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, where
they abduct people on daily basis and collect millions of naira as
ransom.
The House had while adopting a motion by Minority Whip, Yakubu
Barde (PDP, Kaduna), the House said the level of kidnappings in many
parts of the country in recent time has reached an alarming level.
Only a fortnight ago, a member of the House from Kano State, Garba
Umar Durbunde, was kidnapped about 50 kilometres to Kaduna from Abuja on
his way to Kano. There were reports that several other people were
kidnapped within the last two weeks.
