The
family members of a Mechanical Engineering graduate have appealed to
the Nigerian police to unravel the killers of their son.
The late Charles Obaretin
The death of a 47-year-old man, identified as Charles Obaretin who
is a graduate of mechanical engineering from the Federal Polytechnic,
Auchi has sparked tension in the area as the family appealed for
justice.
The family of the victim has asked the Nigeria Police help in
unraveling the circumstances surrounding his alleged murder in Ologbo
community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to Punch, the late Charles was said to be an unemployed
graduate of mechanical engineering from the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi,
who had been introduced to a job at an oil mill by one of his friends.
The friend, identified as one Mr. Saturday, was said to have told
him that the job, which was located at Obayantor, had a monthly salary
of N120,000.
The late Charles was said to have left his home last Monday to
resume work at the company but did not return until five days later when
his decomposing corpse was found in a bush.
His remains were later said to have been deposited at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital on Sapele Road.
The sister of the deceased, Stella Inuwede, told Southern City News
on Monday evening that she had been informed by one Mr. I. K. that he
and her late brother were allegedly kidnapped by some armed men on their
way to the company.
She said that the said I. K. had claimed that while he was released
by the kidnappers, her late brother was shot dead when he complained
of tiredness.
She explained, “As my brother went to resume on Monday, I did
not see him again. On Wednesday, his friend told me that he could not
find him. We went to the company but it did not look like a place where
one could be paid N30,000 (as salary).
“I went to the house of the boy who was said to have been
kidnapped with my brother since I could not reach him on the phone. But
when I got there, I was surprised to see him and was wondering what was
happening.”
“So, I decided to go to Obayantor where the company was
located. The police also invited the boy to explain what happened and
where the alleged kidnap took place. But when we got there, I discovered
that my brother was dead,” Stella, who was accompanied by the 83-year-old father of the deceased, Pa Felix, said.
She, therefore, called on the Nigeria Police to expose the
perpetrators, adding that she did not believe the claim of the boy that
his late Charles was killed by kidnappers as his (deceased) eyes and
nose appeared allegedly mutilated.
She also alleged that I. K. did not disclose the death of his deceased brother until he was asked by the police.
”I cannot find the boy who gave my late brother the job and
the one who was allegedly kidnapped with him. I want the police and the
state government to help me unravel the killers,” the sister of the deceased added.
The Edo State Police Command could not be reached for comments as
calls put across to its spokesman, Mr. Moses Nkombe, were not picked.
Nkombe also had yet to respond to a text message sent to him as of the time of filing the report.
